Rob Johnson is chief executive officer of CSL Esports, a Playfly Sports company, operators of North America’s largest collegiate esports league, NACE Starlegaue, and focused on competition, curriculum and consulting to grow university programs and student-athletes. Johnson previously served as chief operating officer for Nerd Street Gamers, an esports infrastructure company based in Philadelphia. Under his operational direction, the company closed Series A funding, was named Technically Philly’s 2019 “startup of the year,” recognized as “world’s most innovative companies” by Fast Company, and created the Emmy-winning TV series, “FTW Philly,” for NBC Sports. From 2016 to 2018, Johnson was a vice president with Jackbox Games, creator of hit party games “You Don’t Know Jack” and “The Jackbox Party Packs.” There, he oversaw marketing strategy and brought the company’s games to new verticals including esports events, NFL/NCAA football games and cable platforms. Before entering the video game industry, he worked in traditional sports and entertainment as vice president of digital media and partnership marketing for the Philadelphia Flyers (2013–2016), vice president of marketing for Xfinity Live (2011–2013), and held positions with the Philadelphia Flyers, Jacksonville Jaguars and Philadelphia Eagles from 2004–2011.
